COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY
Massaro’s mission is to pursue excellence for the benefit of our people, our customers, and the community. Central to that mission is our commitment to creating diverse and inclusive environments, both within our company and in the communities in which we work. We focus our efforts in three key areas: Our Company, Our Projects, Our Community. We make our commitment actionable by:
-
Creating a culture of inclusion and making non-discrimination the first behavior in our Code of Conduct;
-
Implementing our own version of the Rooney Rule whereby we recruit from non-traditional sources;
-
Sponsoring minorities in the trade unions;
-
Moving beyond mere contract compliance to making minority participation standard operating procedure;
-
Engaging in mentor-protégé relationships with minority owned subcontractors; and
-
Providing internships to minority high schoolers interested in careers in the construction industry;
-
At Massaro we believe that we don’t succeed unless we all succeed.
In 2020, Massaro developed a joint venture partnership with a minority-owned TD Construction. As a result of this venture, Massaro has partnered with former NFL Super Bowl Champion, Darnell Dinkins. Darnell is the firm's leader in workforce development focusing on minority outreach. Through his work, Massaro is better equipped to actively seek disadvantaged vendors for local projects.
MASSARO SERVES
Our commitment to our communities
We serve the communities in which we work and we do it because it is the right thing to do. We have a deep appreciation of the value and benefits that our region’s non-profit and community-oriented organizations bring to our neighborhoods. Giving back is engrained in the fabric of our culture and we are proud to support those that support others.
“Massaro Serves” is our organizational approach to community service. By focusing and measuring our efforts, we ensure that we make the most of the time and resources we give back to our community. Our goals include connecting youth to careers in construction, environmental sustainability, charitable contributions, and pro bono services.
Carl Barnhart Memorial Golf Outing
Each year, in September, Massaro hosts its annual golf outing to raise money for a non-profit that has touched the company and/or the Massaro family. The outing began in 1998 after the tragic death of one of our treasured superintendents, Carl Barnhart. The first outing was organized to raise money for Carl’s children’s college fund. As the years passed it evolved into a charitable event for a different non-profit each year, but it has always kept Carl Barnhart’s name.
